Zambian Orphans Appeal

  VOLUNTEERING (including 'GAP YEAR' students)

From 2010, the 'Serenje Orphans School Home' will be able to offer placements at the orphanage for volunteers for periods of up to 2 months at a time. We are hoping to be able to have a continual volunteer presence at the site throughout the year so that the children benefit most by this. Our ideal situation would be to have small groups of Volunteers (2 to 4) at any one time.

This opportunity is available for school-leavers seeking part of a Gap Year break from formal study, university students (e.g. Occupational Therapists requiring work placements as part of their course), and others (of any age including retirees) who wish to offer their expertises to our project.

Approved volunteers will be met at Lusaka Airport on their arrival in Zambia, transferred to a Guesthouse in Lusaka, and then assisted in their travel to Serenje (some 500km from Lusaka). They will be accommodated at our 'Volunteer House' located close to the orphanage site in Serenje. Accommodation at the 'Volunteer House' will be cheaper, more private and more secure than at the local Guesthouses. Meals, prepared from local produce by our cook, will be included in the cost. Support will also be close at hand since the Managing Director, Kamandete Chuma and his wife Leah will also be living in the house.

To apply now for a 2 month period at the orphanage, please email an application to contactzoa@yahoo.com providing the following:

1) a letter of application outlining your experience, skills and reasons for wishing to work in Zambia

2) your Resume, with your contact details and that of 2 personal referees

3) your preferred dates for the placement
